Calling all Pokemon trainers! Joyful Sounds is excited to host Pokemon Club at the studio on Friday afternoons from 3:30 to 5:00. This is an after school program focused on playing the Pokemon Trading Card Game.
The Pokemon Trading Card Game is a great way to learn how to strategize and compete in a friendly environment. For younger kids, it’s a great way to improve reading comprehension skills and basic math skills!
Don’t know how to play the game yet? No worries! Part of the goal of the club is to learn how to play the game with the cards you have. Don’t have any cards? Still no worries! Our resident Pokemon Professor, Mr. Spencer, will have decks of cards for you to borrow during the club.
Anyone bringing their cards will have the opportunity to trade with other club members! Trades will be monitored to ensure fairness.
What to Expect
Pokemon club is a fun and safe way for your child to meet new friends, develop critical thinking skills, and work on their math—all while enjoying Pokémon! Key measures are taken to ensure a safe environment for young children. League locations and Professors are subject to background checks, local tournaments are segmented by age divisions, and supervising adults will always be present.

Bring your own cards or borrow a rental deck
For aspiring trainers looking to bring their own deck of cards, here’s what you need to know for building your deck:
– 60 cards exactly
– In order to play an evolved Pokemon like Charizard, your deck needs to have the Pokemon that come before it, in this case Charmander and Charmeleon. Cards will state which Pokemon is required to evolve into them.
– Enough energy cards of the correct types to use the attacks on the cards of the Pokemon. Charizard needs Fire type energy, for example. I recommend 20 energy cards in a 60 card deck.
